Watercolor artist Sarah Yeoman shared a technique using a triad of transparent red, yellow and blue paints diluted in a spray bottle to add atmosphere to a painting. Her demo was of a landscape that used heavy masking and brushed layers of the paints applied wet on wet to create beautiful variations of darks. Then she used the paints in the spray bottles to add the lights. I used the spray bottle method of spritzing in this next painting. Materials-1/4 sheet Arches 140 pound paper, Holbein lemon yellow, Winsor and Newton Permanent Rose and Antwerp Blue watercolor. Add a fingertip blob of paint to a half bottle of water and shake well until paint is incorporated. Spritz onto dry paper, flat on table (not tilted).
